The Galician Center for Water Research/ Fundación Centro Gallego de Investigaciones del Agua, Cetaqua Galicia, has been recognized by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of the Spanish Government as a Technological Innovation Support Center.
In this way, Cetaqua Galicia becomes the first Technological Innovation Support Center at national level of the twelve existing dedicated exclusively to water and the environment.
The presentation of this accreditation took place last Thursday in the Emprendia building, in the Campus Vida of Santiago de Compostela. The event was chaired by Francisco Conde, Minister of Economy, Employment and Industry of the Xunta de Galicia, and was attended by Alberto Sánchez (Manager of Cetaqua Galicia), Manuel Cermerón (CEO of Suez Advanced Solutions Spain), Julio Masid (Director of Viaqua) and Roberto Rodríguez (Director of Augas de Galicia).
The expected aim of a Technological Innovation Support Center is to facilitate the application of the generated knowledge. Since its creation in 2011 by the company Viaqua, the Center for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the University of Santiago de Compostela, Cetaqua Galicia has been successfully performing the function of catalyzing the arrival in the market of this knowledge, developing and validating solutions for its commercialization thanks to the internationalization potential of the SUEZ group.
This accreditation has been possible due to the impetus given by the creation of the Unidad Mixta CIGAT (Center for Galician Innovation in Advanced Water Treatment Systems), focused precisely on the development and market entry of technologies that contribute to the improvement and valuation of natural resources. Formed by the company Viaqua and the technology center Cetaqua Galicia and constituted thanks to the support of the Consellería of Economy, Employment and Industry of the Xunta de Galicia through the Axencia Galega of Innovation (GAIN), the UM CIGAT thus contributes to the positioning of Galicia in this area due to the recognition of a new accredited Center of reference at National level.
